Rehabilitation of a sports field and development of a training area, Desjardins Park, Gatineau

As part of a redevelopment project at Desjardins Park, the City of Gatineau is proposing to refurbish a sports field and develop a training area to ensure user safety and offer complementary services, while enhancing the landscaping. The park is in the Hull–Wright district of Gatineau, Quebec.

The proposed project would take place on land leased by the City of Gatineau from the National Capital Commission (NCC) and is subject to a federal approval of land use and design under the National Capital Act.

The development work includes resurfacing the asphalt sports field, adding a set of multi-sport goals (basketball and soccer), creating a gathering area, developing an entrance zone at the sports field, expanding vehicular access areas to meet the needs of maintenance teams, and adding landscaping features.

The proposed additions would be built on the same site as the existing sports field to avoid interfering with existing lighting and vegetation. This area is currently located near a wooded zone, a 0–20-year floodplain, a 20–100-year floodplain, and the banks of Ruisseau de la Brasserie. The work complies with the setback requirements of the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP), as well as municipal regulations.

The construction area will be accessible with light machinery and equipment, and all work zones will be properly fenced. Construction is expected to begin in June 2027, with completion scheduled for late August 2027. All construction activities will comply with municipal regulations, including noise bylaws.

Pedestrian access to the site from Goyette Street will be maintained throughout the construction period. Existing vegetation will be preserved and protected in accordance with recommendations from a forestry engineer from the City of Gatineau. New trees will be planted to enhance and improve stormwater runoff quality.
