Lake Babine Nation Tachet Community New Wastewater System

Associated conducted a feasibility investigation in 2020, which identified four concept plans to shift from the use of septic tanks to a centralized CWWS. The recommended CWWS concept is a piped collection system (i.e., sanitary lines, lift station, and forced main) and aerated lagoon system with surface discharge (i.e., treatment system). The lagoon system will be located at the previous gravel pit area in the southwest of the community and the proposed outflow will be pumped north into Babine Lake

The proposed infrastructure includes the following:

• A wastewater treatment facility (WWTF), including an aeration building and lagoons. This will be constructed in the previous gravel pit location in areas that are predominantly pre-disturbed, situated at least 30 m away from the highwater mark of Fulton River. It will also be situated at least 30 m from the community gas station, and 100 m from residential homes. The WWTF will require a clearing and grubbing area of approximately 22,931 m2 (Figure 1-1). The immediate footprint of the WWTF, including an access road, will be approximately 4,895 m2, encompassed by approximately 550 m of perimeter fencing.

 • A lift station near the intersection of Lazelle Road and Babine Crescent, with an approximate footprint of 553 m2.

 • A force main extending approximately 898 m from the lift station to the WWTF. The force main will be installed within the existing right-of-way of Main Street and Eagle Road. The force main will encroach into the riparian area of Fulton River (i.e., within 15 m of the highwater mark) ; however, no riparian vegetation will be removed as the alignment is along an existing dirt road .

• A sanitary sewer collection main to service residential houses along Lazelle Road, Leon Hill Avenue, Main Street, and Babine Crescent. The sanitary sewer line will be approximately 1,342 m long and will be constructed entirely within pre-disturbed areas.
