Black Lake First Nation Lagoon Upgrades

Black Lake First Nation is proposing the construction of a lagoon upgrades project. The project includes the construction of a new primary and storage cell to expand the capacity of the existing lagoon. The lagoon site is located approximately 2 km north of the Black Lake First Nation community, and expansion of the new cells will be immediately to the east of the existing cells.

Construction will consist of expanding to the existing facultative lagoon, which will include construction of a 5.45 ha primary cell and storage cell with 237,800 cu.m. capacity, complete with installation of all interconnecting and release structures. The lagoon upgrade project will continue to use the existing effluent discharge route, which releases to the west of the lagoon and flows approximately 9 km through a creek containing several low-lying, naturally occurring detention-type pond areas before ultimately entering Middle Lake.
